'The Rune Cabal' to Germany

25.2.2010

Rúnagaldur/The Rune Cabal by Elías Snæland Jónsson has been sold to Germany. The book is a thriller which weaves stories from medieval eddic poetry into events of World War II, and the Nazi leadership's enthusiasm for this “Aryan” heritage.

The book tells the story of Melkorka Steingrímsdóttir, a TV reporter who goes in search of the truth about her grandfather's murky past. Ruthless opponents strive to find the ancient runic key to the mysteries of the Norse gods before she does, and at the same time to reveal the secrets of a German u-boat when sank off the Icelandic coast in 1944, with senior SS officers and crates of gold bullion aboard.

The Rune Cabal is the first of Elías Snæland Jónsson's novels to be published abroad, and also the first book sold by the Skrudda publishing house to Germany.

In addition to The Rune Cabal, Aufbau has also acquired the rights to Óttar M. Norðfjörð's  Hnífur Abrahams/Abraham's Knife and Huldar Breiðfjörð's Góðir Íslendingar/Good Old Icelanders.
