New film website launches

23.5.2011

The website Icelandic Cinema Online – which allows web users to view Icelandic films, documentaries, TV shows and shorts directly online – was formally launched on May 23.

Icelandic Cinema Online“We're starting out with some 40 titles available,” says Sunna Guðnadóttir, director of Icelandic Cinema Online. “At present, English subtitles are available for the films, but we plan on including more languages later on, and new material is added to the site every week.”

Sunna is confident that there is plenty of online demand for Icelandic films.

“One of the site's goals is to create a platform that Icelandic producers and filmmakers can use to promote their works,” she says. “Today's fast and widely available internet connections make it easy for people anywhere in the world to enjoy films online.”

The site is also meant to expand the number of titles available to viewers.

“There are plenty of Icelandic films out there,” Sunna says, “but many of them have been unobtainable for years. We're going to do our best to dig up those titles and make them accessible online.”
