“Scintillating images in the midst of winter darkness,”

1.9.2010

Jón Kalman Stefánsson's Himnaríki og helvíti / Heaven and Hell, recently published in Danish by Batzer & co., received a glowing review in the newspaper Information. “An account of an era before the onset of modernity and tumultous wars,” writes reviewer Torben Brostrø of the novel, which takes place in Iceland at the dawn of the 20th century. He then goes on to add that Stefánsson's description of the tiny society of fishermen and their wives succeeds in conjuring up "scintillating images in the midst of winter darkness."

The review (in Danish) can be found here.
