Eggert Pétursson's flower prize

7.4.2010

Flora IslandicaDesigners Snæfríð Þorsteins and Hildigunnur Gunnarsdóttir have been awarded the 2009 Intercontinental Advertising Cup Best of Publications  prize for their design of Flora Islandica, published a little over a year ago by Crymogea.

The Intercontinental Advertising Cup was founded in 2007, as a forum for competition between design and advertising work which has excelled in the judgement of professional organisations in each country and continent. Only projects which have won awards on their own continent are eligible to compete for the Cup.

Snæfríð and Hildigunnur competed from ADC*E (Art Director's Club of Europe) against entries from the New European Golden Drum, and outstanding design and advertising from Asia and South America.  In the Best of Media category, their design for Flora Islandica was judged Best of Publications.

Flora Islandica is the only Icelandic work to be entered for the Cup since it was founded, and hence also the only Icelandic winner of the award.

Flora Islandica showcases Eggert Pétursson's botanical drawings of 270 Icelandic vascular plants, originally made in 1982-3 for the book Íslensk flóra með litmyndum (Icelandic Flora with Colour Illustrations) by Ágúst H. Bjarnason, published in 1983. Eggert Pétursson is one of Iceland's most renowned contemporary artists.
