Major paperback contract in Germany
A contract to publish three novels by Hallgrímur Helgason has been finalised with one of the largest and most eminent paperback publishers in Germany, dtv (Deutscher Taschenbuch Verlag). To be published are 10 ráð til að hætta að drepa fólk og byrja að vaska upp (The Hitman's Guide to House Cleaning), Rokland (Stormland) and 101 Reykjavík.
German translations of three novels by Helgason have already been published in traditional hardback by the publishing house Klett-Corta in Stuttgart, and the fourth, The Hitman's Guide to House Cleaning is coming out around the middle of February under the title Zehn Tipps, das Morden zu beenden und mit dem Abwasch zu beginnen. The paperback contract is largely thanks to the success of this book, which has already been well received in Denmark and in Holland.
This is a major outcome, and testimony of the publisher's belief in Helgason and his works; it reflects also the expectation of increased interest in Icelandic literature in the German market in anticipation of Iceland's presence as Guest of Honour at the Frankfurt Book Fair 2011.
